Charmian Taylor has had a longstanding relationship with the Springville Museum of Art. While in High School, she attended her drama and English classes held in the Museum. She also remembers being surrounded by the art as she participated in the school’s Thespian Club, which met in the Clyde Gallery. What has impressed her is the growth that has taken place in the Museum since her youth.
Together with her late husband, Robert W. Taylor, Charmian raised four daughters. Due to Robert’s service in the Air Force, they got to travel the world. When they lived in Germany for four years, the Taylors visited the famous museums of Europe, including the Louvre in Paris. Despite such memorable experiences, however, Charmian loves the Springville Museum of Art. “It ranks right up there at the top,” she said. “The Museum is very well kept, and it’s free so anyone can come.” She loves the intimacy the Museum provides.
Although not an artist herself, Charmian admires people that can paint and appreciates the artistic talent on display at the Museum. She finds it hard to add artwork to the walls in her home because it has become a mini art gallery. “Art is everywhere!” she said. She feels most drawn to impressionistic art. One of her favorite paintings at the Museum is John Hafen’s The Hollyhocks. Charmian has been a loyal supporting member of the Museum for over thirty years. She frequents the temporary exhibitions and always enjoys the events put on by the Museum during the annual Art City Days.
